Biography

Dr. Luca Roma is a specialist physician in the Internal Medicine and Oncology Unit, as well as in the Internal Medicine and TAO (oral anticoagulant therapy) outpatient clinics at the Istituto Clinico Beato Matteo. He also collaborates with the Istituto di Cura Città di Pavia.

He graduated in Medicine and Surgery in 2010 from the University of Pavia, where he also specialized in Internal Medicine with a focus on Internal Ultrasound in 2016. He later obtained a BLSD-ACLS certificate from the American Heart Association and completed a Basic Ultrasound Course with a focus on Infectious Diseases from SIUMB in 2016.

Over the years, Dr. Roma has gained experience in the clinical management of acute, subacute, and rehabilitative/postoperative inpatient care in a medical hospital setting, particularly in handling patients with multiple comorbidities, geriatric patients, or those with similar conditions. He has also developed expertise in:

  • Interpreting standard 12-lead ECGs and traditional internal medicine X-rays;
  • Performing diagnostic or therapeutic invasive procedures in a medical context, such as nasogastric tube placement, venous and arterial blood sampling, ABG, thoracentesis, paracentesis, arthrocentesis/joint injections, and both simple and complex wound, pressure sore, and skin lesion dressings.

Clinically, he primarily focuses on the management of:

  • Acute medical inpatient care, from diagnosis to non-surgical treatment;
  • Patients with comorbidities, chronic exacerbated diseases, and geriatrics;
  • Outpatients for monitoring chronic conditions;
  • Patients undergoing anticoagulant therapy.

He also handles the medical treatment of non-surgical conditions requiring acute hospitalization, including:

  • Cardiovascular and respiratory;
  • Neurological;
  • Hematological;
  • Infectious;
  • Metabolic;
  • Nephrological;
  • Rheumatological;
  • Gastroenterological.

Moreover, Dr. Roma collaborates with medical specialists, surgeons, and radiologists for the multidisciplinary management of clinical cases.

He is a co-author of abstracts for national and international conferences, primarily on internal medicine and hematology topics, such as:

  • "Systemic Capillary Leak Syndrome (SCLS) or Clarkson’s Disease associated with Influenza B infection in an adult Italian woman: a case report"
  • "A scoring system based on leukocyte alkaline phosphatase activity and peripheral granulocyte precursor percentage predicts JAK2 V617F mutation in patients with Primary Myelofibrosis."
