Biography

Dr. Guido Basilisco is a specialist in Gastroenterology at Casa di Cura La Madonnina.

After earning his degree in Medicine and Surgery in 1979 from the University of Milan, he completed his specialization at the same university—first in Diseases of the Digestive System (1983) and then in Pharmacology (1987). In 1992–93, he was a Research Fellow at the Gastrointestinal Unit of the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota (USA).

Dr. Basilisco treats patients with both functional and organic disorders of the digestive system, including irritable bowel syndrome, chronic abdominal pain, chronic constipation or diarrhea, defecation disorders, fecal incontinence, dyspepsia, diverticular disease, and inflammatory bowel diseases (Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, and microscopic colitis). He also follows patients with the rare condition chronic intestinal pseudo-obstruction.

From 1989 to 2022, he served as Medical Director at the Gastroenterology and Endoscopy Unit of the IRCCS Ca’ Granda Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico in Milan, and from 1994 to 2022 he was a contract professor at the Gastroenterology Specialization School.

A Fellow in Gastroenterology with a specialization in Gut Motility recognized by the European Board of Gastroenterology, he is also a member of the Editorial Board of Neurogastroenterology and Motility.

He has 85 scientific publications listed on PubMed and an H-index of 26.
