Giovanni Maria Colombo
Biography
Dr. Giovanni Maria Colombo is the Chief Consulting Surgeon at Casa di Cura La Madonnina.
After graduating in 1981 from the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Milan, in 1986 he specialized in surgery of the digestive system and digestive endoscopy at the University of Milan, and in 1993 - in general Surgery at the University of Pavia. Then he receives a Master's degree level II in minimally invasive colorectal surgery at the University of Turin.
Assistant at the Ospedale San Gerardo in Monza, then - 1st level Assistant/Digestion, from 2008 to 2011 he headed the surgical outpatient department of the same hospital.
To realize his skills, in 1991, Dr. Colombo also completed an internship in the specialty "Surgical Hernia Technique" at Shouldice Hospital in Toronto (Canada) and an internship in laparoscopic surgery at Rochester General Hospital (Rochester, New York).
From 2011 to September 2020, Dr. Colombo heads a single operative unit of Gastroenterological Surgery, Surgery I, at the Azienda Ospedaliera San Gerardo, in Monza.
Over the years, this activity has been accompanied by the organization and leadership of a Multidisciplinary Gastric Cancer Group and annual interdisciplinary continuing education courses in medicine in the same field.
In addition, from 2005 to 2014, Colombo was an associate professor of colorectal Surgery at the School of Specialization of Surgery of the Digestive System and Digestive Endoscopy, and from 2014 to 2018 he was a professor of endocrine surgery under contract at the School of Specialization of General Surgery of the University of Milan Bicocca, with tutoring and university elective courses on "Chronic Inflammatory Bowel diseases" and lectures on "Thyroid Nodes".
During his career, Dr. Colombo has received several diplomas, internships and courses, national and international congresses on:
- colorectal surgery,
- pelvic floor surgery,
- proctology,
- laparoscopic surgery,
- thyroid surgery,
- gastroenterology and oncology.
Among his activities, the organization stands out as a participant and speaker of the International Congress "Uptodate in Thyroid Disease Live Surgery", held at the Ospedale San Gerardo Hospital - in Monza and the University of Milan Bicocca (2013).
Dr. Colombo has performed about 4,000 interventions as the first surgeon in the field of surgery:
- urgent,
- thoracic,
- hepatobiliopancreatic,
- gastroenterological (stomach tumors and IBD),
- colorectal (laparotomy and laparoscopic surgery of colon and rectal cancer IBD, diverticular disease),
- proctological (hemorrhoid surgery, prolapse surgery, perianal fistulas),
- pediatric (laparoscopic splenectomy, hernias, orchipexy),
- abdominal wall and hernia,
- thyroid and parathyroid glands.
He also received for the 1st Surgery of the Ospedale San Gerardo in Monza a certificate of national accreditation from the UEC Club (Association of Italian Departments of Endocrine Surgery) and a regional certificate from SIUEC (Unitary Italian Society of Endocrine Surgery) for thyroid surgery.
He is the author and co-author of 80 publications.
