Giovanni Lucchesi
Biography
Dr. Giovanni Lucchesi is a Pediatric Orthopedic Specialist at Villa Erbosa in Bologna.
After earning his degree in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Messina in 2016, he completed his specialization in Orthopedics and Traumatology at the University of Florence in 2021.
During his training, Dr. Lucchesi spent extended periods in the Orthopedics and Traumatology Department of the Meyer Pediatric Hospital in Florence. There, under the guidance of Dr. Lampasi, he specialized in the diagnosis and treatment of congenital clubfoot and hip dysplasia, as well as pediatric trauma care. He also spent a year at the Humanitas Research Hospital in Milan, mastering techniques for limb lengthening and correction of complex deformities using the Ilizarov Method under Dr. Alexander Kirienko, a globally renowned expert in this field.
In 2021, Dr. Lucchesi further honed his expertise in France at the Pediatric Orthopedics Department of the Hôpital Jeanne de Flandre in Lille, led by Professor Federico Canavese. During this period, he specialized in diagnosing and surgically treating complex malformations of the pediatric hip and foot, as well as neuro-orthopedics.
Dr. Lucchesi also deepened his knowledge in ultra-specialized areas such as hand surgery and orthopedic oncology. He trained in the Reconstructive and Microsurgical Hand Surgery Unit and the Orthopedic Oncology Department at the CTO of Florence. Additionally, through collaboration with Dr. Bonforte, a leading Italian expert in hip dysplasia, he refined his skills in neonatal hip ultrasound screening and the treatment of dysplastic pediatric hips.
In 2024, Dr. Lucchesi attended advanced courses in the U.S. on complex limb deformities, particularly in pediatric cases, and co-founded the OrthoChildren Center, an international hub for treating congenital and acquired pediatric orthopedic deformities.
Since November 2021, building on a collaboration that began during his time at the Meyer Pediatric Hospital, Dr. Lucchesi has been part of the OrtoPediatria team led by Dr. Lampasi at Villa Erbosa. In addition to addressing common pediatric orthopedic issues (flat feet, gait abnormalities, knock knees, bow legs, scoliosis, pediatric trauma, Perthes disease, slipped capital femoral epiphysis), he focuses on treating complex deformities of the upper and lower limbs (congenital pseudarthrosis, hypoplasia/hemimelia, Blount's disease, achondroplasia, infectious sequelae, rickets, and other skeletal deformities due to metabolic bone disorders, congenital clubfoot, and hip dysplasia).
Dr. Lucchesi has published several articles in international journals on pediatric orthopedic topics and actively participates in scientific research and international conferences, contributing to the advancement of pediatric orthopedics.
