Biography

Dr. Giovanni Damiani is an ophthalmologist at the Ophthalmology Unit of the IRCCS Policlinico San Donato. He also collaborates with the Punto RAF Respighi and Punto RAF De Gasperi centers.

He graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Palermo in 2016. During his academic journey, he enriched his education with significant international experience. In 2015, he was awarded an Erasmus scholarship at Klinikum “Rechts der Isar” of the Technische Universität München in Germany.

In 2017, he obtained his medical license from the University of Palermo. He then pursued further specialization in Ophthalmology, completing his residency in 2022 at the same university. During this period, he participated in a training observership in Ophthalmology at the Medizinische Universität Graz in Austria, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Med. Univ. A. Wedrich.

In 2023, he earned the prestigious title of Fellow of the European Board of Ophthalmology (FEBO), reflecting his high level of expertise and professionalism in the field of ophthalmology.

Dr. Damiani gained substantial experience working at the Humanitas Clinical Institute in Milan, under the guidance of Prof. P. Vinciguerra, from February 2022 to April 2023. In this role, he was primarily involved in the Cornea and Refractive Unit, where he handled the diagnosis, treatment, and management of ocular surface diseases, including:

  • Inflammations
  • Ectasias, dystrophies, and infections

He developed advanced skills in using and interpreting diagnostic tools such as corneal topography, OCT, Pentacam, and specular microscopy.

His surgical experience includes:

  • Cataract surgery
  • Assistance in vitreoretinal surgery, glaucoma surgery, and corneal transplants

Additionally, he has performed numerous parachirurgical procedures, such as intravitreal injections, corneal cross-linking, and various laser treatments for secondary cataract, iridoplasty, narrow-angle glaucoma, and retinal pathologies.

He is also experienced in preoperative planning for refractive cataract surgery, with a particular focus on selecting "Premium" IOLs.
