Biography

Dr. Galyna Shabat is a surgeon specializing in General Surgery, affiliated with the General Surgery Unit and Esophagus Center, as well as the Digestive Endoscopy Service at IRCCS Policlinico San Donato.

In 2006, she graduated with honors in Medicine and Surgery from Ivano-Frankivsk National Medical University in Ukraine, receiving a diploma of excellence. She subsequently completed her specialization in General Surgery with top marks, focusing her thesis on "The Role of Calcinosis of the Media Layer in the Pathogenesis of Tissue Ischemia in Patients with Diabetes Mellitus," and earned her Clinical Doctorate in Surgery with a thesis titled "The Dynamics of Bile Toxicity in Patients with Mechanical Jaundice and Choice of Surgical Treatment."

Dr. Shabat then worked in the university division of General Surgery at Ivano-Frankivsk National Medical University, where she also engaged in digestive endoscopy and clinical research. She later worked as a surgeon and endoscopist at the National Cancer Institute in Kyiv, Ukraine.

From 2014 to 2016, she obtained a fellowship in endoscopic surgery at IRCAD in Strasbourg, France.

In 2018, she completed a fellowship in the Colorectal Surgery Division at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School (Boston, USA), where she continues to collaborate on various international research projects.

She received recognition from the Italian Ministry of Health (La Sapienza University, Rome) for her medical degree (2019) and specialization in general surgery (2021) obtained in Ukraine.

In 2020, she graduated with top marks and honors from the II level Master’s program in Operative Digestive Endoscopy at the University of Turin, with a thesis on "Endoscopic Stent 'Bridge to Surgery' versus Urgent Surgery in the Treatment of Left Colon Obstruction."

Dr. Shabat’s primary clinical activities focus on general and oncological surgery, as well as diagnostic and operative digestive endoscopy.

She is a member of the Global Medical Knowledge Alliance, serving as the Patients Education Lead, and collaborates with the National University of Singapore’s Global Asia Institute (GAI).
