Francesco Torresan

Dr. Francesco Torresan is a gastroenterologist in the Internal Medicine Unit at Villa Erbosa.

He earned his degree in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Bologna in 1987, where he also specialized in Gastroenterology and Digestive Endoscopy in 1991, achieving the highest score of 70/70. In 1991, he attended a permanent training course in Internal Ultrasonology organized by AUSL 28 at the Gastroenterology Department of the S. Orsola-Malpighi Hospital in Bologna. In 1994, he completed a Clinical Fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco (USA).

Dr. Torresan specializes in diagnostic and therapeutic esophagogastroduodenoscopy (removal of gastric polyps, endoscopic treatment of bleeding from gastric ulcers and esophageal varices, endoscopic removal of foreign bodies, botulinum toxin injections, pneumatic dilation in achalasia, and esophageal strictures) as well as in diagnostic and therapeutic colonoscopy (removal of intestinal polyps, treatment of bleeding using argon plasma application, hemorrhoid ligation, and rectal prolapse).

He is skilled in managing gastroesophageal reflux disease, eosinophilic esophagitis, and functional digestive disorders (achalasia, hyperkinetic esophagus, jackhammer esophagus, hiatal hernia, gastroparesis, chronic intestinal pseudo-obstruction (CIPO), irritable bowel syndrome, chronic constipation, and fecal incontinence). He has expertise in performing high-resolution anorectal manometry, the balloon expulsion test for colonic transit study, and abdominal ultrasound (for liver, gallbladder and bile ducts, pancreas, spleen, abdominal vessels, kidneys, and intestinal loops).

He has conducted research on esophageal and anorectal functional disorders and has authored numerous articles published in international, peer-reviewed journals. He actively participates in national and international congresses as a speaker.
