Francesco Bandello
Biography
Prof. Francesco Bandello is the Head of the Ophthalmology Unit at IRCCS San Raffaele Scientific Institute in Milan. He is a Full Professor of Ophthalmology at University Vita-Salute San Raffaele and the Director of the Specialization School of Ophthalmology at the same University.
Prof. Bandello holds prominent positions in various prestigious organizations. He is the President of the Association of Italian University Professors of Ophthalmology (CONPROSO), President of the ESASO Foundation (European School for Advanced Studies in Ophthalmology), and President of Academia Ophthalmologica Europea. Additionally, he serves as the Vice President of EuroLam and is a Former President of EURETINA.
His remarkable contributions have earned him numerous awards, including the "Gabriel Coscas Medal" for outstanding contributions in the field of retinal diseases in 2011, the "SERV Award" (Sociedad Española de Retina y Vitreo) in 2016, the BOA Award (Bombay Ophthalmology Association), and the "Cunha-Vaz Award 2017." He also delivered the "Euretina Lecture 2019" and the "Guest Lecture Gabriel Coscas" of the Société Francaise d’Ophthalmologie in 2022.
Prof. Bandello serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the European Journal of Ophthalmology and is an Active Member of The American Ophthalmological Society (AOS). He sits on the Board of the Commission of Prevention of Blindness and Low Vision (Italian Ministry of Health) and is an Executive Board Member of SISO (Società Italiana Scienze Oftalmologiche). He is also a Member of the Academia Ophthalmologica Internationalis. Previously, he held the position of Director of Club Jules Gonin and served as an Executive Committee Member of the Macula Society.
With an extensive publication record, Prof. Bandello is a co-author of 12 books and has authored or co-authored 1,047 Pub-Med articles. He has served as a trained Principal Investigator in several clinical trials, adhering to ICH/GCP standards, with a focus primarily on retinal diseases.
