Fouad Kanso

Professor Fouad Kanso is a clinical pathologist and the Director of the General Clinical Laboratory with specialized areas in Clinical Pathology, Microbiology, and Virology at Istituto Clinico Città di Brescia, Istituto Clinico S. Anna, and Istituto Clinico San Rocco.

He held a position as Adjunct Professor of Clinical Biochemistry at the School of Specialization in Clinical Biochemistry at the University of Brescia from 2013 to 2018. From 2018 to 2019, he was an Adjunct Professor of Applied Biology and Medical Genetics at the Vita-Salute San Raffaele University (UniSR). Since 2019, he has been an Adjunct Professor of Hematology and Transfusion Medicine at UniSR and also serves as an Adjunct Professor at the School of Specialization in Clinical Pathology and Clinical Biochemistry at the same university.

Professor Kanso began his medical training at the Faculty of Medical Sciences at the Lebanese University in Beirut in 1987. He later received a scholarship to continue his studies at the University of Padua and completed his medical degree at the University of Brescia in 1995. He specialized in Clinical Biochemistry with a diagnostic focus at the University of Brescia in 1999 and developed a particular interest in hematological diagnostics at Spedali Civili in Brescia. He obtained his medical license in 1996.

His previous roles include:

• Medical Director of the Fleming Laboratory in Travagliato (BS) and Hematology Reference at the Fleming Laboratory in Brescia (1999-2000)
• Director of the Laboratory Medicine Service at Istituto Clinico San Rocco (2001-2016)
• Head of the Hematology and Hemocoagulation Section at Istituto Clinico Città di Brescia (2016-2023)
• Medical Trainee in Gastroenterology and Digestive Endoscopy at Spedali Civili in Brescia, focusing on ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease (1995-1996)
• Managed an outpatient clinic for skin diseases at ASL/University of Brescia (1997) and provided medical services in emergency medicine at the Brescia and provincial health service (1996-2006)

Professor Kanso is the reference for Patient Blood Management at the Brescian Hospital Institutes for the prevention and treatment of anemia and has published several scientific papers in the field of Laboratory Medicine.
