Biography

Dr. Elena Lara Sbicego is the Head of the Radiation Therapy Unit at IRCCS Ospedale Galeazzi - Sant’Ambrogio. She completed her education at the University of Milan, where she specialized in Radiation Therapy.

Throughout her career, Dr. Sbicego has primarily focused on Oncological Radiation Therapy, utilizing advanced equipment such as CT simulators, state-of-the-art linear accelerators equipped with Cone Beam CT, On Board Imager, Electronic Portal Imaging Device (EPID), and multi-leaf collimators configured for IMRT (Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy), IGRT (Image-Guided Radiation Therapy), and Rapid Arc techniques. She currently conducts the majority of treatments using computerized 3D conformal planning and IMRT.

Dr. Sbicego is highly active in research, participating in studies on the effects of adjuvant radiation therapy following conservative surgery for breast cancer in patients with BRCA1 and BRCA2 mutations, as well as a prospective study on radioimmunotherapy in combination with whole-brain radiation therapy for patients with multiple brain metastases from solid tumors.

She is the author of abstracts and scientific articles published in national and international journals, such as Tumori and Radiotherapy Oncology. Dr. Sbicego has also participated in numerous conferences, with abstracts featured in the Supplemento Tumori and the Abstracts Book published by the Italian Association of Radiation Oncology (AIRO), addressing topics related to radiation therapy techniques (image fusion, hypofractionation, IMRT, IORT) and the combination of radiation and chemotherapy.
