Biography

Dr. Antonello Paulesu is Head of the Urology Unit at Istituto Clinico Villa Aprica.

In 1987, he graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Milan, where he later specialized in General Surgery in 1990 and in Urology in 2000. In 2024, he obtained a second-level Master's degree in Oxygen-Ozone Therapy from the Niccolò Cusano University in Rome and a diploma from the two-year School of “Neural Therapy” at the Italian School of Neural Therapy in Bologna.

Professional Experience:

  • 1985–1986: Internship at the General Medicine Department of Sant’Anna Hospital in Como
  • 1987–1988: Internship in the General Surgery Department at Luigi Sacco Hospital
  • 1990: Full-time Medical Assistant in General Surgery at the Circolo Hospital in Lecco
  • 1991–1995: Full-time Medical Assistant in the Emergency and Urgent Care Service at Sant’Anna Hospital in Como
  • 1995–March 2025: Full-time Medical Director in the Urology and Andrology Department at ASST Lariana – Sant’Anna Hospital in Como, with a high-level specialization role (formerly in charge of minimally invasive treatment of prostate cancer using transrectal high-intensity focused ultrasound – HIFU)

  • Surgery for genitourinary trauma-related injuries
  • Renal laparoscopic surgery
  • Andrological surgery for phimosis, varicocele, hydrocele, epididymal cysts (spermatoceles), congenital and acquired penile curvature (e.g., Peyronie’s disease), penile prosthesis implantation
  • Minimally invasive treatment of prostate cancer via Robot-Assisted Transrectal Prostate Thermoablation with High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU), focal or total
  • Endoscopic surgery for:
    • Urethral strictures (urethrotomy)
    • Bladder neck obstruction (TURP/TUIP)
    • Bladder tumors (TURB/TURV) with photodynamic fluorescence cystoscopy (PDD with HexVix)
    • Bladder stones (laser and ballistic lithotripsy)
  • Laser endoscopic lithotripsy for ureteral and renal (pyelocaliceal) stones (URS/ULL, RIRS, ECIRS, PCNL)
  • Endoscopic thulium laser photocoagulation of urothelial tumors of the lower (urethra, bladder) and upper urinary tract (ureter, renal cavities)
  • Female urinary incontinence surgery: TVT, TOT, SIS (Single-Incision Slings)
  • Male urinary incontinence surgery: suburethral sling implants (2-arm AdVance XP and 4-arm ATOMS) and artificial urinary sphincter (AMS 800)
  • Minimally invasive endoscopic treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH):
    • Enucleation and vaporization with thulium laser (ThuLEP and ThuVAP)
    • Radiofrequency thermoablation (TUNA)
    • Aquablation with AquaBeam
    • UROLIFT and iTIND implantation
  • Ultrasound diagnostics of the urogenital system and ultrasound-guided prostate biopsy
  • Outpatient endoscopic diagnostics of the lower urinary tract: urethroscopy and flexible cystoscopy
  • Outpatient diathermocoagulation (DTC) under local anesthesia for small bladder tumors using flexible cystoscopy
  • Functional urology and urodynamic testing
