Alfredo Savarese
Biography
Professor Alfredo Savarese is the Director of the IV Orthopedics at Istituto Clinico San Rocco in Brescia, a Surgeon at Istituto Clinico Città di Brescia, and a Lecturer and Tutor in Orthopedics and Traumatology at the University of Siena. He graduated with top honors from the University of Naples in 1973 and subsequently specialized in both Orthopedics and Traumatology and Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation at the same institution.
He performed the world's first bilateral knee prosthesis implantation in tantalum—a very lightweight metal that allows for rapid and complete bone growth around the prosthesis. Annually, he averages around 650 surgeries in hip, knee, and shoulder prosthetic surgery, as well as over 150 revision surgeries for hip and knee prostheses.
Additionally, he conducts arthroscopic surgeries of the knee, shoulder, ankle, and elbow, amassing a total of over 27,000 surgical procedures in both orthopedics and traumatology.
Professor Savarese has authored more than one hundred scientific publications in specialized journals related to Orthopedics and Traumatology. Since the mid-1980s, he has organized and participated as a speaker in national and international conferences covering topics such as femoral head endoprostheses, functional casts, and knee prostheses.
From 2003 to 2005, he served as President of the Piedmont, Liguria, and Lombardy Society of Orthopedics and Traumatology (SPLLOT) and is a member of the National Board of AIR, the Italian Society of Orthopedics and Traumatology (SIOT), the Italian Orthopedic and Traumatology Society (OTODI), and the Italian Association of Reprosthetization (AIR).
