Biography
Prof. Alessandro Marugo is an endocrinologist and the head of the Thyroid Center at IRCCS Policlinico San Donato.
He graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Genoa in 1996, with a thesis on hyperprolactinemia. In 2001, he specialized in Endocrinology and Metabolic Diseases at the same university.
Since 2003, he has been a medical director in the Endocrinology Department—Thyroid Center at Galliera Hospital in Genoa and a Professor in Endocrinology at the School of Specialization in Otolaryngology at the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, University of Genoa.
With over 25 years of experience in studying and treating conditions related to endocrine system dysfunction, his clinical practice focuses on thyroid and parathyroid disorders. He has performed over 262,000 thyroid ultrasounds and 24,000 thyroid fine-needle aspirations and ethanol injections.
At Policlinico San Donato, he conducts consultations, ultrasounds, and thyroid fine-needle aspirations. This minimally invasive procedure involves taking a sample from a thyroid nodule, which is then examined under a microscope to determine whether it is benign or malignant.
