Alberto Vailati
Biography
Dr. Alberto Vailati is an endocrinologist and diabetologist at the Diabetes and Endocrinology Service of the Istituto di Cura Città di Pavia.
He graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Pavia in 1972. In 1974, he specialized in Endocrinology, followed by a specialization in Internal Medicine in 1979, also at the University of Pavia.
From 1976 to 1977, he served as an assistant in the Endocrinology Division at the S. Antonio Abate Hospital in Gallarate (VA). He worked at the Policlinico San Matteo in Pavia from 1973 to 2009, initially as an assistant in the Medical Clinic 1 until 1979, then as a deputy head until 2002, followed by a period as the acting Director of Medical Clinic 1 until 2004. He later became the Head of the Endocrinology and Diabetology Unit within the Medical Clinic 1 and the medical area of Intra Moenia at the Policlinico until 2009.
Since 2010, Dr. Vailati has worked as a freelance professional in the endocrinology and metabolism field at the Istituto di Cura Città di Pavia, where he was the head of the Endocrinology and Diabetology Service until 2017.
He has dedicated his career to endocrinology and diabetology in the Medical Clinics 1 and 2, as well as at the Chemical-Clinical Analysis Laboratory of the Policlinico San Matteo. His focus has been on biochemical issues, pathology, and therapy related to the thyroid, parathyroids, adrenal glands, gonads, hypothalamic-pituitary axis, and diabetes mellitus in all its forms and manifestations.
Dr. Vailati has performed over 5,500 fine-needle aspirations of thyroid nodules with corresponding cytological examinations. He has published 122 articles in national, European, and North American journals on topics related to thyroid pathology, neuroendocrine disorders, hypothalamic-pituitary issues, adrenal pathology, gonadal disorders, and diabetes.
