Biography

Prof. Alberto Margonato is the Head of the Operative Unit of Clinical Cardiology at the IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele in Milan and Professor of Cardiology at Università Vita-Salute San Raffaele.

His training takes place at the University of Milan, where he graduates in Medicine and Surgery and specializes in Cardiology (1978), Diabetology (1981), and Internal Medicine (1986). In 1983-1985, he attends the Cardiovascular Unit of the Royal Postgraduate Medical School of Hammersmith Hospital in London, and in 1985, in the same city, he becomes Honorary Registrar of the Cardiology Unit of Harefield Hospital.

For the years of his career, Prof. Alberto Margonato has performed, as the first operator, more than 3,000 cardiac catheterizations, coronarography, temporary and permanent pacemaker implantations, more than 2,000 coronary angioplasties and 1,000 procedures with coronary stent implantation.

At IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele, he is in charge of the management of the Clinical Cardiology Department, the cardiology outpatient service, cardiology research projects and the organization of national congresses. He acquires technical skills in hemodynamics by performing coronarography and angioplasty. He is a certified BLS (Basic Life Support) instructor and conducts numerous clinical trials (GCP).

He is a member of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) and his contributions appear in peer-reviewed journals, such as Journal of American College Cardiology, International Journal of Cardiology, Heart, Journal of Cardiology Fail, Journal of American Society Echocardiography, European Heart Journal, Lancet, Circulation.
