Hernia Center @ Ospedale Galeazzi - Sant'Ambrogio
The Hernia Center is a highly specialized department founded and directed by Prof. Giampiero Campanelli, formerly Head of the General Surgery - Day & Week Surgery Unit. The Hernia Center is a national reference point for treatment of abdominal wall pathology. It is composed of a team of experts with a rigorous technical-scientific approach, in line with the latest technologie,s and in conjunction with international scientific guidelines.
An integral part of the surgical team are the trainees from the General Surgery Residency Program of the University of Insubria.
Following a Hub & Spoke model designed to be as accessible as possible to patients, the Hernia Center also has a location at Palazzo della Salute-Wellness Clinic, where patients can access specialistic visits and initial examinations. If further investigations and/or surgery are required, thanks to the synergy between the two facilities and the presence of the same team, these can be performed at the Galeazzi-Sant'Ambrogio Hospital with the guarantee of diagnostic and therapeutic continuity.

Treated pathologies encompass all abdominal wall conditions, including:
- Primary inguinal hernias (never operated on) and their recurrences (previously subjected to one or several repair surgeries).
- Primary femoral hernias and their recurrences.
- Ventral hernias (epigastric and/or umbilical) with or without rectus muscle diastasis.
- Rectus muscle diastasis.
- Postpartum floppy abdomen.
- Rare primary and recurrent lateral hernias (Spigelian, Petit, and Grynfelt).
- Sports hernia or pubalgia, and Pubic Inguinal Pain Syndrome (PIPS).
- Laparoceles, lombocels, incisional hernias, parietal disasters.
- Abdominal hernias and obesity.
- Chronic postoperative neuralgias (inguinal and ventral).
- Endometriosis of the abdominal wall.

Le nouvel Hôpital réunit en un seul lieu l'Istituto Ortopedico Galeazzi, l'hôpital leader en orthopédie qui réalise 75% de toutes les chirurgies orthopédiques de révision en Italie, et l'Istituto Clinico Sant'Ambrogio, modèled'excellence sanitaire pour son Unité Cardiovasculaire, ainsi que pour le diagnostic et le traitement de l'obésité.
Le nouvel Ospedale Galeazzi - Sant'Ambrogio (OGSA), accrédité par le Système National de Santé italien (SSN) et doté du statut « IRCCS » (Institut Scientifique pour la Recherche, l'Hospitalisation et la Santé) par le ministère italien de la Santé, pour l'étude des troubles du système locomoteur, est un centre d'excellence pour la recherche biomédicale clinique et préclinique. Il est réputé pour son activité universitaire, en particulier pour l'enseignement de la Licence de Médecine et de Chirurgie, en accord avec l'Université de Milan.
En tant qu'ancien Istituto Ortopedico Galeazzi, il est connu pour ses réalisations dans le domaine de la médecine sportive et abrite désormais « RE.GA.IN », un Centre de Médecine Régénérative pour le traitement des pathologies du cartilage et des tendons.
Depuis 2007, l'Institut est devenu membre de l'ISOC (International Society of Orthopaedic Centers), reconnu comme l'un des 19 instituts d'excellence dans le domaine de l'orthopédie représentant 16 pays.
L'ancien Istituto Clinico Sant'Ambrogio ajoute au nouvel OGSA son excellence en matière de traitement des pathologies cardiovasculaires avec plus de 500 interventions de chirurgie cardiaque et 2 500 opérations de cardiologie interventionnelle par an, devenant ainsi l'un des premiers centres italiens pour les traitements cardiovasculaires. Le Centre Cardiothoracique représente un point d'excellence dans la chirurgie cardiaque mini-invasive et dans le remplacement percutané de la valve aortique. En outre, l'ancien Istituto Clinico Sant'Ambrogio occupe la première place parmi les hôpitaux de Lombardie pour le traitement de l'infarctus aigu du myocarde.
