Dr. Pietro Mariano Casali is the Head of the Pre-Hospitalization Service and the Ambulatory Cardiology Activity at the Istituto di Cura Città di Pavia.
He graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Pavia in 1979, where he also specialized in Cardiology in 1985 and in Sports Medicine in 1989.
He began his training in 1980 with a Practical Hospital Internship at the Division of Cardiology of the Policlinico San Matteo in Pavia. He then obtained a Research Fellowship at the Chair of Cardiorespiratory Physiology of the University of Pavia. In 1981, he was a Cardiology Assistant at the Ospedali Riuniti of Tortona and Castelnuovo Scrivia. He served in the military as a Medical Lieutenant from July 1981, with his service ending in 1982. From 1981 to 1983, he was responsible for the Medical Emergency Service at ASL Cremona and became an assistant at the Ospedale C.Mira in Casorate Primo from 1983 to 1988, handling Emergency Services. From 1988 to 1996, he was an Ambulatory Specialist in Cardiology at ASL Pavia.
Since 1997, he has been a Cardiologist and Sports Medicine Doctor at the "Medica Sport Minerva" Sports Medicine Center. From 1992 to 2011, he was the Medical Director of the "Medical Sport Center" in Lodi. He has also served as a Consultant for the Enervit Team and a Contract Professor at the University of Pavia’s Degree Course in Motor Sciences since the Academic Year 2001/2002. From 2008 to 2012, he was the Head of the Ambulatory Cardiology Service at the Istituto Clinico Prof. Morelli in Pavia. In 2019, he was appointed for a coordinated and continuous collaboration for the highly qualified project: “FOOD SOCIAL SENSOR NETWORK (FoodNET) - Lifestyle and Aging in Free-Living Subjects.”
From 1983 until 2001, he was responsible for the Internal Medical Emergency Service at the Casa di Cura Città di Pavia, where from 1985 to 1992, he was a Cardiologist Consultant and Head of the Cardiac Rehabilitation Department.
He started working at the Istituto di Cura Città di Pavia in 1992, serving as a Cardiologist Consultant until today. Additionally, he has worked as a Medical Director in the Cardiology department from 1992 to 2007 and was the Head of the Ambulatory Cardiology Service from 1997 to 2007 and from 2013 to the present. Since 2014, he has been responsible for the Pre-Hospitalization Cardiological Service and, since 2016, for the Ambulatory Cardiac Rehabilitation Service. In 2020 and 2021, he participated in the COVID Medicine Department.
Dr. Pietro Mariano Casali has developed skills and expertise in non-invasive cardiology diagnostics, particularly in executing and interpreting data from stress tests with electrocardiographic monitoring and cardiopulmonary stress tests, Holter ECG, 24-hour blood pressure monitoring, transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography, and echostress. He has also developed expertise in 3D echocardiography, heart rate variability and blood pressure monitoring techniques, and pulmonary ultrasound during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic. He has experience in assessing and planning training for cyclist athletes using platforms such as "TrainingPeaks," "WKO5," and "GoldenCheetah." He also delves into nutritional studies, particularly "Sport Nutrition."
Finally, he has conducted research in clinical cardiology, echocardiography, cardiovascular disease prevention and rehabilitation, nutrition in heart failure, epicardial fat measurement and significance, and exercise physiology in cyclist athletes. He has approximately 39 publications.
