In 2010, she undertook a fellowship in Breast MRI at the Department of Radiology at the University of Bonn in Germany.
In the field of Diagnostic Breast Imaging, Dr. Girardi focuses on prevention, clinical and instrumental diagnosis, first and second-level screening, and oncological follow-up for treated breast cancer. She manages the selection of candidates for genetic testing for breast cancer, interventional procedures (localization, needle biopsy techniques), and minimally invasive breast biopsies using various imaging guides (mammography, ultrasound, MRI).
She has extensive experience in characterizing lesions visible only on MRI and performing MRI-guided biopsies, large-core needle biopsies, and vacuum-assisted biopsy systems. Dr. Girardi plays an active role in therapeutic planning for breast cancer, participating weekly in multidisciplinary consultations with the Breast Unit (following Eusoma requirements) and interacting with other professionals to ensure targeted therapies. She also collaborates in the development of software for digital breast ultrasound imaging.
Since 2013, she has performed over 5,000 mammograms, 100 needle biopsies, and 50 vacuum-assisted biopsies. She is a member of the European Congress of Radiology (ECR) and the Italian School of Breast Imaging (SIS), where she teaches courses on breast ultrasound and biopsy. Additionally, she is an elected councilor of the Breast Imaging Study Group of the Italian Society of Medical Radiology and Nuclear Medicine (SIRM).
