Dr. Daniele Malaspina is a cardiologist at the Cardiology Unit and the Electrophysiology and Arrhythmia Cardiac Pacing Service at the Istituto di Cura Città di Pavia. He also collaborates with the Istituto Clinico San Siro in Milan.

He graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Milan in 1984 and specialized in Cardiology at the same institution in 1986.

During his studies, he completed training periods at various hospitals, including:

  • Electrophysiology at Ospedale di Asti (1992 and 1994) under Prof. F. Gaita
  • Centro Cardiologico Monzino in 1997 (three months) under Prof. P. Della Bella
  • Spedali Civili di Brescia in 2006 (one month) under Prof. A. Curnis

In 2006, he obtained a Master’s degree in Electrophysiology and Electrostimulation from the University of Insubria.

Following his graduation and specialization in cardiology, he has been involved in arrhythmology and electrophysiology since 1990 at Ospedale S. Carlo Borromeo in Milan, where he worked from 1988 until October 1, 2021. From December 3, 2014, to October 2021, he served as the Head of the Electrophysiology and Electrostimulation Unit at the institution.

Dr. Malaspina performs interventional procedures as the primary operator, including:

  • Electrophysiological studies
  • Catheter ablation (right and left)
  • Pacemaker, defibrillator, and loop recorder implantation
  • Electrical cardioversion

Since 1991, he has performed electrophysiological studies and catheter ablations with radiofrequency for cardiac arrhythmias, having conducted approximately 1,650 procedures, including right and left ablations with transseptal catheterization.

Since March 2015, he has performed left atrial ablations for atrial fibrillation using cryoenergy.

He is experienced in using electrophysiology polygraphs and the Carto 3 electroanatomical mapping system. Since 2003, he has implanted single-, dual-, and triple-chamber pacemakers and defibrillators, having completed over 2,050 implants to date.

Additionally, he has performed approximately 680 elective electrical cardioversions and implanted over 80 subcutaneous loop recorders.

Beyond his specialization in arrhythmology, electrophysiology, and cardiac pacing, Dr. Malaspina is also involved in clinical cardiology, including:

  • Exercise stress testing
  • Classical echocardiography
  • General clinical management

He has published 34 scientific papers in print journals and authored a textbook for nursing degree courses, along with two chapters in university cardiology textbooks.
