Biographie

Dr. Alessandro Verzini is currently the head of the Functional Unit of Cardiac Surgery within the Cardiac Surgery Department at IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele in Milan, directed by Professor Alessandro Castiglioni.

He graduated in Medicine and Surgery in 1997 from the University of Turin with full marks and specialized in Cardiac Surgery in 2002 at the same university. He has been employed as a medical director since 2003 in the Cardiac Surgery Division at San Raffaele Hospital, and since 2017, he has been responsible for the Functional Unit of Cardiac Surgery at the same institution.

As the lead surgeon, Dr. Verzini has performed over 700 cardiac surgeries and has participated in more than 4,000 procedures in the same field. He is particularly experienced in surgery of the ascending aorta and aortic arch, repair of the mitral and aortic valves, and reconstruction of the aortic valve using autologous pericardium.

In terms of research activity, Dr. Verzini specializes in brain protection techniques during aortic arch surgery, repair and reconstruction of the aortic valve, and mitral valve repair. He is the author and co-author of 60 publications in specialized scientific journals and book chapters, with an H index of 12. He regularly participates in national and international conferences in his field.
