Biografía
Professor Francesco Greco is the Head of the Urology Department at Policlinico San Pietro and a urology consultant at Casa di Cura La Madonnina, as well as the Director of the Urology Unit at the Men’s Health Center in Bergamo, where he has developed a new holistic model for men’s wellness.
After graduating in Medicine and Surgery in 2003 from the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Rome, he earned the European Diploma in Uro-Oncology from the European Board of Urology (EBU) in 2007.
In 2008, he specialized in Urology at Martin Luther University in Halle Saale (Germany), where from 2009 to 2014 he served as Director of the Department of Laparoscopic and Robotic Surgery. In 2013, he completed his PhD in Medicine magna cum laude.
In 2014, he obtained national qualification as an Associate Professor of Urology, followed by the qualification for Full Professor of Urology in 2020.
In 2016, he began his teaching career in Italy as a contract professor of Laparoscopic Surgery at Federico II University of Naples, and from 2019 to February 2023, he held the role of contract professor at Humanitas University in Milan.
From 2018 to 2021, he also served as the Head of the Urology Department at Humanitas Gavazzeni in Bergamo.
Since 2021, he has been an Associate Professor/Privat Dozent at the Medical University of Vienna (Austria).
Professor Greco’s main areas of expertise include:
- Robotic, laparoscopic, and open surgery for benign and malignant urological conditions, with over 3,000 surgeries performed as lead surgeon.
- Procedures for benign prostatic hyperplasia: GreenLight laser therapy, vaporization, and enucleation with a Thulium laser.
- Ejaculation-sparing techniques: water vapor therapy for benign prostatic hyperplasia, transurethral prostatic implant of a dilator.
- Laser, endoscopic, and percutaneous surgery for urinary tract stones and benign or malignant bladder conditions.
- Prosthetic and reconstructive andrological surgery.
Prof. Greco has published over 120 scientific papers in renowned journals. Over the years, he has received several prestigious national and international awards, such as the Italian Matula Award in 2016 (a prestigious award from the Italian Society of Urology for the best national scientific output by a surgeon-researcher under the age of 40) and the Reviewer of the Year Award from European Urology, the most prestigious urology journal worldwide. He is a member of numerous editorial boards of international scientific journals and serves as Editor-in-Chief of Uro-Technology.
His main area of research focuses on the application and development of mini- and micro-invasive techniques for treating benign and malignant uro-andrological conditions.
