Domenico Baccellieri
Biography
Dr. Domenico Baccellieri is the Head of the Venous Pathology Diagnostics, Therapy and Research Program at the Vein Center of the Vascular Surgery Department at the IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele in Milan under the supervision of Professor Roberto Chiesa.
In 2002, he graduated from the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Messina, and in 2007 he received a specialization in vascular surgery at the University of Vita-Salute San Raffaele, where the following year he also received a Master's degree of level II in aortic surgery. During his studies, he studied at the University of Leicester (UK), where he specialized in carotid artery surgery and peripheral endovascular techniques.
The clinical and research activities of Dr. Domenico Baccellieri are focused on abdominal and thoracoabdominal aortic surgery, endovascular treatment of pathology of the abdominal aorta, descending thoracic aorta and thoracoabdominal aorta; treatment of extracranial lesions of the carotid arteries and minimally invasive endovascular treatment of carotid stenoses using stents.
He is also an expert in the treatment of superficial vein pathology by surgical methods, minimally invasive endovascular ablation methods (radiofrequency ablation, mechanochemical ablation) and in the treatment of pathology of the deep vein system: treatment of acute venous thrombosis by thrombectomy and complex reconstructions, treatment of chronic thrombosis by endovascular recanalization and stenting, compression syndromes (May-Turner syndrome, Nutcracker syndrome). He is an active member of the Pelvic Department of Ospedale San Raffaele as an expert on pelvic congestion syndrome. He has performed more than 3,000 operations as the first surgeon.
Dr. Baccellieri is the author of 1 monograph “Vasi viscerali e Chirurgia Aortica” and 23 scientific publications in international journals. In 2013, he was awarded the Hippocrates Prize with the silver medal of the President of the Republic. He is the main researcher and co-researcher of scientific research in the field of aortic pathology and peripheral vascular pathology.
He is a member of the most prestigious scientific societies of vascular surgery and phlebology (the Italian society for vascular and endovascular surgery (SICVE), European society for vascular surgery (ESVS), American society through the veins and lymphatic vessels (AVLS), Italian physical society (SIF), CIF, AFI) and Advisor to the Director of the Association of the primary hospitals for vascular surgery.
