Dr. Roberta Balestrino is a neurologist at the Neurology Unit of IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele.
She graduated with honors and academic distinction in Medicine and Surgery from Vita-Salute San Raffaele University in 2015. In 2020, she completed her specialization in Neurology with top marks at the University of Turin. In 2023, she earned a PhD with honors in Molecular Medicine, specializing in Neuroscience and Experimental Neurology at Vita-Salute San Raffaele University. During her training, she also completed research and study programs abroad, including at the Instituto de Salud Carlos III in Madrid and the UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology in London.
She is currently a medical consultant at the Neurorehabilitation Unit of Ospedale San Raffaele. She focuses on the management of patients with movement disorders, with particular attention to Parkinson’s disease and atypical parkinsonism.
Her research has mainly focused on movement disorders, with particular interest in Parkinson’s disease, exploring clinical, genetic, neuropsychological, and imaging aspects, as well as innovative therapeutic strategies including cognitive-motor rehabilitation and deep brain stimulation.
Alongside her clinical and scientific work, she is an active member of international scientific societies, including the European Academy of Neurology and the Movement Disorders Society.
She has authored over 30 articles published in peer-reviewed international journals, contributing both as first author and in collaboration with national and international research teams. Her H-index is currently 17.
