السيرة الذاتية
Dr. Riccardo Maggiore is a general and endocrine surgeon, Head of the Endocrine Surgery Functional Unit within the Week Surgery Unit of IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele, directed by Prof. Riccardo Rosati.
After graduating in Medicine and Surgery from Vita-Salute San Raffaele University of Milan in 2010, he specialized in General Surgery at the same university in 2016.
Clinically, he mainly focuses on the diagnostic and therapeutic management of endocrine diseases requiring surgery (benign or malignant thyroid nodules with or without lymph node involvement, primary or secondary hyperparathyroidism, secreting or non-secreting adrenal nodules).
In this field, he adopts both traditional and minimally invasive surgical approaches, using advanced technologies (e.g., intraoperative monitoring of recurrent laryngeal nerves – IONM – for which he attended specific training courses, and the study of parathyroid vascularization using NIR fluorescence angiography with indocyanine green). He has performed about 2,000 endocrine surgical procedures as First Surgeon and has taken part in over 6,000 endocrine surgeries as a member of the surgical team.
He designs a personalized surgical pathway for each patient after multidisciplinary evaluation involving endocrinologists (including pediatric endocrinologists), radiologists, nuclear medicine physicians, ultrasound specialists in endocrine diseases, bone metabolism specialists, and nephrologists. Special attention is given to defining the surgical pathway and follow-up for thyroid cancer, in accordance with the most recent international guidelines, always in a multidisciplinary setting involving endocrinologists. He is the Organizational Coordinator of the Thyroid Cancer Disease Unit at IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele.
He regularly participates as a speaker at national and international congresses.
