Sleep Medicine

The Sleep Medicine Unit at Ospedale San Raffaele Turro specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders, which can significantly disrupt this essential physiological process and often go unrecognized by patients. The unit is a center of excellence for addressing conditions such as insomnia, sleep apnea, narcolepsy, sleepwalking, restless leg syndrome, and nocturnal enuresis, recognized by the Italian Association of Sleep Medicine (AIMS) and the European Sleep Research Society.

Supported by a multidisciplinary team of neurologists, psychologists, and specialized technicians, the Sleep Medicine Unit combines expertise with advanced technology. In addition to standard polysomnography, the unit offers video-polysomnography, nocturnal cardio-respiratory monitoring, and actigraphy, which can be used for both in-lab and portable at-home assessments. 

To ensure cutting-edge patient care, the center conducts ongoing clinical research on sleep-related respiratory and motor disorders, including genetic studies on conditions like nocturnal frontal lobe epilepsy and restless leg syndrome. Furthermore, it participates in international research focused on sleep disorders as early indicators of neurodegenerative diseases, such as Parkinson’s disease and Lewy body dementia.
