Angelo Bianchetti

Dott. Angelo Bianchetti is the Head of the Medical Rehabilitation Department at the Istituto Clinico Sant'Anna in Brescia and serves as an Adjunct Professor for the School of Specialization in Geriatrics and Gerontology at the University of Brescia.

After earning his degree in Medicine and Surgery, Dr. Bianchetti specialized in Gerontology and Geriatrics at the University of Parma in 1987, followed by a specialization in Neurology at the University of Verona in 1991. His expertise encompasses Geriatrics, with a particular focus on Alzheimer’s disease, General Medicine, Functional Recovery and Rehabilitation, Physical Medicine, and Physiokinesitherapy.

Dr. Bianchetti is involved in managing the departments of Medicine and Rehabilitation, rehabilitation and pulmonary day hospitals, broncho-pneumology services, physical medicine, and the Alzheimer’s Evaluation Unit. He also conducts non-invasive vascular diagnostic exams using Doppler ultrasound equipment.

As a Coordinator, he leads a multicenter comparative study on Aripiprazole versus Placebo for treating psychotic symptoms in Alzheimer's patients, sponsored by Bristol Myers Squibb. In 2002, he was responsible for a Ministry of Health-funded research project focused on developing indicators of clinically significant cerebrovascular damage using structural MRI. He also led a study titled “Quality of Life in Alzheimer’s Patients,” conducted by the Geriatric Research Group of Brescia in 2009.

His research contributions are documented in a substantial bibliography, including monographs and scientific articles published in national and international journals. His work predominantly addresses dementia and depression. Since 1999, he has been an Associate Editor of the journal Alzheimer Disease and Associated Disorders, and he serves on the editorial boards of the Open Geriatric Medicine Journal and the International Journal of Psychology and Neuroscience.

Dr. Bianchetti provides consultancy services to various study centers across Italy. In Brescia, he is both a Council Member and the Coordinator of the Biomedical Commission of the Medical Association. He is a member of prestigious international expert groups, including the Gerontological Society of America, the Italian Association of Psychogeriatrics, and the Italian Society of Geriatrics and Gerontology.
