Gastrointestinal Cancers

The Gastroenterological Surgery of Gruppo San Donato boasts one of the largest and most consolidated Italian case studies in the traditional and minimally invasive treatment of malignant and functional pathology of the upper digestive tract (esophagus and stomach), colon and rectum.

Since 2014, Ospedale San Raffaele has given considerable impulse to oncological surgery of the digestive system, bringing the institution's case mix to the leading levels in Italy (first Italian center for esophageal surgery since 2015 -AGENAS data, National Outcome Program). The group of medical oncologists dedicated to gastrointestinal cancer collaborates with surgeons, pathologists, radiologists, radiotherapists and endoscopists within a multidisciplinary team in order to define the best diagnostic and therapeutic approach and with particular regard to the most update national and international guidelines and scientific evidence available in the literature.

The progress of knowledge in this field is very rapid and this requires an internal organization based on a multidisciplinary comparison consistent with the goal of adopting shared operational guidelines.

With a well-established multidisciplinary approach in place, the Colon-rectum-hepatocellular & Unknown Primary Cancergroup of Ospedale San Raffaele is a national referral centre for hepatocarcinoma.
