Orthopedic Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology
Orthopedic diagnostic and interventional radiology area of Ospedale Galeazzi-Sant’Ambrogio is a highly specialized reference center for musculoskeletal radiology. The department employs 12 specialist radiologists, with extensive experience in pathologies of the musculoskeletal system. All radiological services are performed in the orthopedic field, such as joints x-rays, joints MRI, CT and ultrasound of all kinds.
There are several highly specialized activities that are carried out, in particular magnetic resonance arthrography (MR arthrography), EOS imaging, and interventional procedures, when imaging is used as a guide to perform minimally invasive therapeutic procedures in the musculoskeletal system. At the Galeazzi's Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology Department the following interventional procedures are performed: percutaneous irrigation of calcific tendinopathy, ultrasound-guided treatment of tendinopathies and plantar fasciitis, joint injections, bone and soft tissue biopsies, infiltrations in the spine for pain control.

Alongside clinical diagnostic imaging activity, a scientific research program is conducted. Aimed at increasing knowledge on musculoskeletal diseases, it uses a wide range of imaging techniques. New artificial intelligence techniques applied to radiological images are also tested, with the dual purpose of creating of the new automated diagnostic algorithms and increasing the diagnostic capacity in some specific sectors.
