Matteo Giacomini
Biography
Dr. Matteo Giacomini is the Head of the Intensive Care Unit and an anesthesiologist at the Anesthesia and Intensive Care Service of Policlinico San Marco.
He graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Milan in 1993 and completed his specialization in Anesthesia and Intensive Care there in 1998. He was a Visiting Fellow at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland, USA, where he focused on research in artificial ventilation.
Throughout his career, Dr. Giacomini has developed intensive expertise in managing acute respiratory failure and mechanical ventilation, critical patient nutrition and metabolism, intra- and extra-hospital emergency management, anesthesia for general and urological surgery, neuroanesthesia, neuro-urology, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, issues related to tetraplegia, and respiratory failure with diaphragmatic stimulation.
He has been a member of the Technical Advisory Group of the Lombardy Region for the creation of the Trauma Network and the Regional Central Purchasing Agency for anesthesia and intensive care equipment.
Dr. Giacomini has participated in numerous national and international anesthesia and intensive care courses. He is the author and co-author of 20 scientific articles published in national and international journals, 50 abstracts presented at national and international conferences, and 8 book chapters. He has been invited as a speaker to various national and international conferences on the intensive management of critical patients.
