Marzia Spessot
Biography
Dr. Marzia Spessot is the Head of the Solvent Unit at IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele.
Dr. Spessot’s academic journey began with graduating with honors in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Pisa in 1986, followed by earning a degree with honors from the School of Advanced Studies at S. Anna School of Advanced Studies in Pisa in 1987.
In 1990, she obtained, with honors, a Diploma in Experimental and Applied Sciences, and in 1993, she completed a specialization in Nephrology, also with honors, from the University of Pisa.
Dr. Spessot’s clinical work has focused primarily on Internal Medicine with a special emphasis on Emergency Medicine and activities in the Emergency Department. She currently specializes in Internal Medicine, Nephrology, and Hypertension.
In her clinical research work, Dr. Spessot is particularly dedicated to:
- Clinical pharmacology applied to hypertension,
- Study of arteriolar structural changes in hypertension and other pathologies,
- Medical simulation,
- Management of major healthcare emergencies.
Dr. Spessot is also dedicated to the field of medical training, having earned:
- ALSIRC (Advanced Life Support) Instructor Diploma in 2008,
- BLSDIRC (Basic Life Support and Defibrillation) Instructor Diploma in 2009,
- MRMI (Medical Response to Major Incidents) Instructor Diploma in 2009,
- Medical Simulation Instructor Diploma in 2012.
Since 2008, she has been part of the Training Group for emergency-urgency courses at San Raffaele Hospital, and since 2015, she has been the ALS-IRC Course Director.
She is a member of scientific societies including the Italian Resuscitation Council and the International Society for Simulation in Healthcare, and she is a co-founder of the Italian Society for Simulation in Healthcare (ISSIH).
Dr. Spessot has also had numerous professional experiences in international cooperation (Libya, Iraq, Brazil, Mozambique, Albania, Honduras, China, Afghanistan, Kurdistan), serving as an expert in organizing Emergency Department services. She has worked both as a consultant for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and as a collaborator with the NGO AISPO San Raffaele in Milan.
She is the author and co-author of numerous publications in scientific journals and book chapters and is a frequent speaker at national and international sector conferences.
