Maria Alessandra Riva

Dr. Maria Alessandra Riva is the Head of the Dialysis and Nephrology Service at Policlinico San Pietro.

In 2000, she graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Milan Bicocca, where she specialized with honors in Nephrology in 2005. Subsequently, in 2010, she obtained a second-level university master’s degree in Ultrasound and Color Doppler in Nephrology from the Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies in Pisa and then in 2012, she received the national Diploma in Nephrology Ultrasound.

Throughout her career, she has been involved in providing care during hospital hemodialysis shifts, nephrology inpatient care, nephrology outpatient services, and surgical activities. In particular, she has served as the second operator in surgeries for creating arteriovenous fistulas for hemodialysis and for placing Tesio catheters. She has also held the role of head of the limited medical assistance dialysis center and the renal ultrasound and echocolor Doppler outpatient clinic in several Italian hospitals.

Dr. Riva has participated in numerous update courses and national conferences and is the author and co-author of scientific articles published in national and international journals.

Since 2008, she has worked with the San Donato Group at Policlinico San Pietro (Bergamo), where she became the head in 2022.
