Franco Alberto Zappoli

Dr. Franco Alberto Zappoli is a specialist in Orthopedics and Traumatology at the Orthopedic Unit V of Villa Erbosa and collaborates with Villa Chiara in Bologna.  

He graduated in Medicine and Surgery with honors (110/110 cum laude) from the University of Bologna in 1993 and specialized in Orthopedics and Traumatology, also with honors (70/70 cum laude), at the same institution in 1998. Additionally, he completed a four-year Master’s program in Orthopedic Surgery under the aegis of the Italian Society of Orthopedics and Traumatology (SIOT).  

Dr. Zappoli gained extensive hospital experience at the Rizzoli Orthopedic Institute and the Policlinico S. Orsola in Bologna, focusing on hip and knee joint prostheses. He served as Head of the Knee Prosthetic Surgery Unit at Policlinico S. Orsola for 12 years.  

His surgical expertise encompasses all contemporary orthopedic techniques, including robotic surgery for hip and knee joint prostheses, an area in which he has in-depth knowledge and insight into future advancements. At Villa Erbosa, he is the lead surgeon with a primary focus on hip and knee prosthetic surgery, including complex prosthetic revisions. He also addresses a wide range of orthopedic and traumatic conditions and offers outpatient consultations.  

Dr. Zappoli has engaged in material technology research at the Rizzoli Orthopedic Institute’s Codivilla-Putti Research Center. His work involved investigating and testing prosthetic biomaterials, as well as designing and validating hip and knee prostheses.  

He actively participates in national and international conferences and attends advanced training courses at leading centers in Europe and the United States.
