Carlo Socci
Biography
Dr Carlo Socci is the Head of the Department of Transplantation, Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and Co-Director of the Transplantation Centre at the IRCCS San Raffaele Hospital in Milan.
His studies began with an honours degree in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Milan, and then he specialised in emergency surgery and first aid in 1991.
From 1990 to 1992 he held various research positions in surgery: doctoral student (1990-1992) at the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, then research assistant (1992-1998) at the Laboratory of Experimental Surgery, Department of General Surgery at the IRCCS San Raffaele Hospital in Milan. From 2002 to 2015, he was the Head of Unit and Coordinator of Kidney and Pancreas Transplantation at the Department of General Surgery of the same institute. Finally, from 2015 to 2018, he was the Head of the Functional Unit of Transplantation, Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery of the Integrated Department of Gastroenterological Surgery at the San Raffaele Hospital in Milan.
In 1998 he obtained the Advance Trauma Life Support diploma, which he renewed in 2002; from 2003 to 2018 he was the member of the IACUC San Raffaele Committee. From 2004 to 2005 and from 2008 to 2009 he held the position of Visiting Professor in General Surgery at the Elective Course "Transplantation Surgery" at the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the Vita-Salute San Raffaele University in Milan. In 2015, he received the Diploma of the School of Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Diseases 'Umberto Parini' ACOI-SICOB.
The author of over 70 scientific articles published in international journals, 4 book chapters and over 100 abstracts presented in national and international congresses, Dr Carlo Socci is an authority in the field of pancreatic islet as well as kidney and pancreatic transplantation.
