Sports Traumatology

The clinical activities focuses on prevention and treatment of orthopaedic traumatologic and degenerative diseases, especially for hip, knee and shoulder. The aim of the treatment is to restore normal joint anatomy and function in case of traumatic lesions (cartilage and osteochondral lesions, meniscus tears, muscle-tendon injuries and capsular injuries) or loading and/or alignment failure (overuse syndromes, axial deviations, maltracking pathologies), preventing chronic damage due to altered articular biomechanics.

In case of a current articular degeneration solutions can be surgical (chondral/osteochondral treatments following the principles of regenerative medicine) and non-surgical (instrumental therapies and targeted physiotherapy. These treatments can slow down the progression of degenerative joint damage, reduce the pain and improve functional autonomy.

Finally, in case of an advanced arthritic damage, we perform surgical joint replacement (Prosthesization), essential for the treatment of the patient, when no other resolutive treatments can be performed.

The surgery is performed according to priciples of maximum saving of tissue and bone, using most innovative techiniques and implants.

Conservative hip surgery which includes
The treatment of femoro-acetabular impingement (FAI) with mixed mini-open surgery + arthroscopy; the surgical treatment of avascular necrosis of the femoral head (from multiple perforations to autologous bone tissue graft and growth factors); corrective surgical treatment of proximal alteration of the femur (subtrochanteric osteotomy in varus, valgus with derotation)

Conservative knee surgery which includes
The treatment of meniscus injuries (arthroscopic meniscus repair, meniscus suture repair and meniscus transplants); the treatment of joint injuries (autologous, allogeneic and synthetic anterior cruciate and collateral ligament repair); treatment of femural-tibial and patellar assail deformity (femural-tibial varis and valgus osteotomy, patellar assailment) and treatment of patellar dislocations (medial patellar-femural ligament reconstruction), the treatment of cartilage and osteochondral lesions (chondroplasties, microfractures, autologous osteochondral transplants and chondral/osteochondral scaffold implants).

Conservative surgery of the shoulder which includes
Treatment of subacromial impingement of the shoulder (acromioplasty and bursectomy); treatment of rotator cuff tears (tendon sutures using synthetic and biological mebrane); treatment of glen-humeral dislocations (capsular repair of the shoulder) and acromion-clavicoular dislocations (ligament substitution with synthetic tissues). All interventions are performed both arthroscopically and arthrotomically.
