DEPARTMENT AND INTERVENTIONS

Arthroscopic surgery (about 500 operations per year):

  • selective meniscectomy
  • meniscal sutures
  • ligament reconstructions
  • treatment of joint fractures.

Treatment of cartilage damage:

  • autologous chondrocyte transplant on membrane
  • microfractures
  • shaving.

Prosthetic surgery (about 300 operations a year):

  • total prosthesis unicompartimental prosthesis.

Traumatology:

  • treatment of fractures of the knee (traditional and arthroscopic technique)
  • treatment of patellar pathologies.

Correction of limb deformities:

  • varus osteotomy
  • valgus osteotomy.

Other orthopedic diseases:

  • hip prosthesis
  • general traumatology.

Department include rehabilitation beds for patients who need longer hospitalization and rehabilitation assistance.

Diploma in Medicine and Surgery in 1970 at the Università di Genova, specialization in Orthopedics and Traumatology at the Unioversità degli Studi di Milano in 1973.
He was president of the Italian Society of Surgery of the Knee.
Professor of Orthopedics and Traumatology at the Università degli Studi di Milano.

Head of Unit - Arthroscopy and Knee Surgery at Istituto Ortopedico Galeazzi.

Co-founder of SIGASCOT (Società Italiana Ginocchio, Artroscopia, Sport, Cartilagine, Tecnologie ortopediche).

He was one of the first Italian surgeons to perform autologous cartilage transplant on membrane.
He performed more than 10,000 arthroscopic surgery (meniscus surgery, ligament reconstruction).
He implanted more than 1,000 prostheses (total and unicompartmental).
He has performed many interventions on other orthopedic and traumatologic pathologies (hip prosthesis, disc herniations, shoulder pathology, osteosynthesis of fractures, etc.).

From 16/09/1997 director of Section II of the Orthopaedics Operating Unit of Istituto Clinico Città di Brescia, where he has been primarily dealing with knee diseases.

The number of surgical procedures is approximately 700 a year, of which 300 replacements and as many ligament reconstructions.

He regularly attends national and international Congresses and Courses on knee surgery as speaker or instructor.

DEPARTMENT:
Since 25 years, the guiding thread of his activity has been the greatest result with the shortest feasible stay at the hospital, i.e. trying to dismiss the patient as soon as possible, as, the longer the hospitalization is, the higher is the risk for the patient of being exposed to infections. This is the reason why the average postoperative hospitalization lasts 3 to 4 days.
