Fertility Center

The centre is currently the largest clinical MAP treatment centre in Italy, administering over 2400 cycles of treatment per year. The centre has the broadest clinical programme of in-vitro maturation of oocytes in Europe and is specialized in the treatment of MAP in patients with polycystic ovary syndrome.

The Assisted Conception Centre with its In-Vitro Fertilization with Embryo Transfer (IVF-ET) programmes is a leader both in Italy and overseas for the techniques used and the number of cases handled.

Gruppo Ospedaliero San Donato represents the spearhead of healthcare in Italy, thanks to the know-how and the long experience of its doctors, nurses and health professionals. Among its different specialties and excellent centers dedicated to health at 360 degrees, particular attention is given to Medically Assisted Procreation, which is the flagship of 3 structures of the Group.

IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele
Since 2002 it hosts a Reproductive Medicine Center, a reference center in Europe which offers innovative techniques in the field of medically assisted procreation (1st, 2nd and 3rd level). In addition to these services, the Unit offers modern techniques of gamete cryopreservation and Social Freezing (i.e. oocytes and ovarian tissue cryopreservation). The Unit's leading edge research activities and its large scientific production are in line with the highest international standards.

Istituto Clinico Città di Brescia
The Reproductive Medicine Unit offers traditional techniques (IVF, ICSI, ICSI-PESA) as well as embryo monitoring techniques and a cryobank for oocytes, embryos and semen.

Endoscopic surgery techniques applied to reproductive pathology allow infertile couples to undergo surgical treatments other than artificial insemination.

The hospital uses also specific lasers for gynecologic operations. This tool is particularly suitable for conservative surgery, which aims at restoring fertility. It also shortens surgical operations and hospitalization.

Istituti Clinici Zucchi
It hosts the Center for Reproductive Medicine Biogenesis, one of the most renowned Italian centers for the diagnosis and treatment of couple infertility.

It is currently the largest center in Italy for MAP and performs 2,400 treatment cycles per year. The center has the largest clinical program in Europe for in vitro maturation of oocytes and is specialized for the treatment of patients with polycystic ovaries.

2014:

  • 3122 MAP procedures
  • 499 gynaecological surgery operations.

From January 2015 to 30th November 2015:

  • 3172 MAP procedures
  • 418 gynaecological surgery operations.

Within the scope of its medically assisted procreation activities, the centre provides all the latest technologies, including TIME LAPSE IMAGING (continuous monitoring of the embryo). All the medically assisted conception techniques currently available are also provided in addition to surgical sperm retrieval, ovarian tissue cryopreservation, semen, oocyte and embryo cryopreservation.

Carlo Gastaldi

Years of experience: 30

Clinical Institute of Brescia

  • Two years as a Research fellow in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of the University of California, Irvine in the USA (directed by Prof. R. Asch), acquiring great experience in artificial insemination and endoscopic surgery techniques.

  • Author and co-author of several publications in Italian and international magazines.
  • Five years of teaching as an untenured professor of reproductive pathophysiology at the School of Specialization in Obstetrics and Gynaecology of the University of Brescia.

CLINICAL ACTIVITY
Dr. Carlo Gastaldi has over 30 years of experience in reproductive pathophysiology and, during these years, high technologies have been developed in the fields of assisted conception (ART – assisted reproduction techniques) and endoscopic surgery.
The assisted conception unit offers not only the traditional techniques IVF-ET, ICSI, ICSI-PESA, but also embryo monitoring methods as well as a cryobank for oocytes, embryos and semen.
The endoscopic surgery technique applied to reproductive disease provides infertile couples with additional surgical treatments to artificial insemination.
A distinguishing element is the use of laser in the field of gynaecology. This instrument finds its ideal application in the field of conservative surgery aimed at restoring fertility, reducing both the time necessary for the surgical operation and the length of the hospital stay.
He has developed some sectors of obstetrics and gynaecology with particular regard to:

  • Infertile couples
  • Artificial insemination programmes (IUI, IVF-ET and ICSI)

The Assisted Conception Centre with its In-Vitro Fertilization with Embryo Transfer (IVF-ET) programmes is a leader on the Italian and international scene both for the methods used and the number of cases handled.

CLINICAL ACTIVITY
At the Science of Childbirth Centre, couples can carry out the entire diagnostic and therapeutic process for infertility problems using the very latest assisted reproduction techniques.  In addition to the traditional diagnostic methods, patients are given access to all the techniques currently available, which range from spontaneous ovulation monitoring to the execution of assisted conception cycles with micromanipulation of female and male gametes.
In addition, a fertility preservation treatment is given to patients at a risk of premature ovarian failure such as young cancer patients that need gonadotoxic chemotherapy; these patients are followed at the Oncofertility outpatient department by a team made up of a gynaecological oncologist, a fertility specialist and a psychologist.

OPERATIONS
MAP cycles: over 1500/year
